One of my favorite things about my job is getting to know people at a more intimate level by having the privilege of photographing the growth of their families. I love it when I get to do a maternity shoot, and later on get to take baby’s first photos as well as photos of him every month of his first year. You will get to see more of baby M this year, because I’ve been honored to be asked to document the first year of his life, one month at a time. How could I possibly tire of such a cute little munchkin? He’s just absolutely gorgeous!

Butterfly Kisses | Reno, NV Family Photographer

Kissing shots can either be candid or “candidly posed.” The trick is to be quick to capture the real candids and to make the candidly posed ones look real. Families with young kids are quite easy to photograph kissing. The great thing about young kids is that when you ask them to kiss their parents for a picture, they actually respond by kissing them for real, and that’s where the candid photo op comes in!

The photos from this session were meant to be a surprise father’s day present for the girls’ dad. It was an eventful afternoon, with mom trying to convince the girls that this was a good idea. I loved capturing that moment of surrender (total candid shot!) from mom, and then giving them a little time to regroup to take the rest of the photos. Sometimes the best shots just happen when you least expect them. Kinda sounds like life itself, doesn’t it??!?

I LOVE baby girls… partly because I don’t have any (I have four boys!), and partly because they can get dressed up in these ridiculously big flower headbands and still look absolutely adorable. Baby O. was less than two weeks old when I took these portraits — my favorite time to take baby pics!
