“Max” – Where The Wild Things Are – Storybook Shoot

Posted on December 13, 2013

At long last, I get to share with you another one of my special Storybook Photo Shoots.  Maurice Sendak’s classic, “Where The Wild Things Are” is one of my favorite children’s books ever.  When I was scouting around to find the perfect little boy to play “Max,” I didn’t have to look farther than my very own home.  My youngest son, Lukas, looked at me with those giant dark eyes one evening with tears streaming down his face.  ”Mommy, I dreamed that monsters were chasing me!”  To calm him down, I sat him on my lap and told him that monsters were just made up creatures.  I then showed him the book, and then the lightbulb moment happened:  OMG.  He’s going to be the perfect Max!!!  And the rest is history.  :-)

Little Red Riding Hood – Storybook Session – Reno, NV Children Photographer

Posted on January 17, 2013

I am soo thrilled to present to you my first “Storybook” session of the year! It took over two months to plan for this shoot, and I prayed hard for just the right amount of snow to be able to execute it. Finally, today, in 15-degree (sub-freezing) temps, my tough little models (girl and dog) braved the cold with me to recreate the tale of Little Red Riding Hood. Special thanks to my super crafty friend, Annie, for her handiwork, and to my good friend, Marie, for lending me her very well behaved husky, Chinook. :-)

Babies and Birthdays | Reno, NV Baby and Children Photographer

Babies and kids are the most challenging subjects to photograph.  My style in photographing them is to get them in as natural a state as I possibly could.  It is definitely a worthwhile investment to document kids’ birthdays with a special portrait shoot.  These photos make great gifts to family and friends, and I am sure you will be cherishing them in years to come.

Christmas Card Portrait Sessions – Sneak Peeks | Reno, NV Family Photographer

2010 has been an amazing year for me, personally and professionally.  It’s been an absolute pleasure to meet so many families this year — new babies, newly engaged, newly-weds, graduating seniors, and everyone else in between… It is such a great feeling to know that my work has given people such joy and that, somehow, I’ve played a small part in helping to document their stories.  The following are just a few of the more than 45 families I’ve had the honor of capturing in the past couple of months alone, which I like to call “Christmas card months.”  I look forward to 2011 and the new memories I get to help capture.  Thank you to my clients, for trusting me with your stories.  It’s been a privilege to serve you!!!

Beachside Sibling Portraits | Southern California Family Photographer

I love Southern California!!!  Among the things I miss the most about living there are the miles and miles of beach that you can play in.  Of course, I shouldn’t complain too much — I’ve got Lake Tahoe in my backyard :-)  But there is something so majestic about the seemingly endless expanse of water that oceans allow you to experience.  It is truly a place to marvel at God’s creation.

Here are a couple of teasers from a photo shoot I did of the G. kids.  They are “hapa” kids (I mean that in the positive way!), just like mine, and oh-so-adorable! :-)   It was a challenging session, because baby sister did not want to have anything to do with the camera, but I know there were some shots that turned out pretty cute!  Patience is definitely a virtue that pays off in many ways!

Getting children to pose without really posing them…

Posted on May 7, 2010

WOW!  Two posts in a row!!!  Making up for lost time, I guess.  I’ve been told that photographing children is one of the most difficult photography assignments one can possibly take on.  I’m up for the challenge anytime! :-)   The trick is to get the child to be comfortable with you (a stranger) first, and then to take their photos without making them aware that you are doing it.  Here are a few from my little session with a wonderfully bubbly and sweet little girl.
